I Don’t Care What People Think About Me and Other Dumb Things People Say

I love it when people say “I don’t care what people think of me”.  I have two people that they should meet: BULL & SHIT.

Here is what they are really saying: “I don’t want you to think that I act differently because of what other people will think of me“.

Ironic? I think so.

Interviewer: So hey Robbie, do you care what people think about you?

Robbie: No way! I created this blog for myself. I don’t care if anyone reads it. I write this blog for myself and not other people. I don’t care what other people think of me. This blog is all about me!

Interviewer: Oh really. So why don’t you just keep the blog private then?

Robbie: Ok, this interview is officially over. Where’s my agent who organized this interview? I’m here to talk about how I’m just Robbie from the block, and you’re trying to instigate. I’ll make sure this is your last interview ever buddy. You’ll see the wrath of my power!!

Interviewer: Dude, really? You’re taking this overboard.

Robbie: I knew I shouldn’t have agreed to this interview. I told my agent that I would only do this if there were a bowl full of Red M&Ms in my dressing room, and instead they gave me Red Skittles. Ugh, amateurs!

The importance of being liked.

The truth is: Not only do I want people to like me, I need them to like me.

I live by this one mantra: People do business with others that they know, like & trust. Every single relationship matters to me, and these relationships have helped me live a happier life & a successful career.

Does everyone have to like me?

OK, this is where I agree there is a gray area. Of course, the answer is no. There are some people who you can’t make like you no matter what.

People need to like me for who I am.

I see people post things on Facebook where it’s so obvious that they are posting it so other people can form a better image of who they are.

It’s so blatant and I find it hilarious. The annoying Facebook poster wants you to think “OMG, You are so smart!!” or “Woah, I am totally jealous of your life!” and in reality what happens is that the post is so blatantly self-serving, that I end up thinking the exact opposite of the person.

What happens if people really don’t like who you are?

Where’s my agent? Enough with the tough questions already!!

I’m so tempted to write don’t care what other people think about you. The reality is that this happens a lot. My only advice is to live a life where they won’t like you, but forced to respect you.

Here is a great slightly edited comment from a reddit.com thread:

And here’s the secret to lifelong happiness: do all this for yourself, and only yourself. Enjoy the fuck out of being alive and people will notice. People will see you and be attracted to you, and you’ll have confidence to talk to them because you’re cool no matter what happens. If you go out in the world and enjoy it, you will attract people.

Let the haters hate. Let the likers like. Be you, live a great life and people will notice.

What happened to the “other dumb things people say”?

I know the title says “and other dumb things that people say”, but I only have 1 example. I was going to say sorry, but really I just don’t care what you think about me or this blog 🙂
